How to Replace the Prius' Tail Light

The Toyota Prius, a hybrid-electric automobile, was first sold in the United States during the 2001 model year. With gas prices continuing to remain at considerably high levels as of October, 2010, the affordable Prius increases in viability due to its ability to eclipse 50 miles per gallon, in ideal conditions. The vehicle is intended to be user-friendly, and is exhibited by the ease in which an owner can replace the tail light on the Prius, with no tools required.

  • Open the hatch back door on the rear of the vehicle.

  • Locate the cover that shields the reverse light, turn signal and tail light. There is one on each side of the rear of the vehicle. Find the side where the light is burnt out.

  • Squeeze the two pairs of protruding clips that extended at the longest length from the cover. Pinching each pair will release the clips that hold them in, and enable you to remove the cover with ease.

  • Unscrew the bottom light bulb behind the cover by turning it counterclockwise.

  • Insert the new light bulb, and turn it clockwise until it is tightly secured.

  • Replace the cover by snapping it back into place.
