Volvo started production on automobiles in 1927 and has been producing vehicles ever since. The Swedish auto manufacturer has had some success in the United States with models like the S80 and the 850. Although import vehicles have visual characteristics that differ from domestically engineered vehicles, they share many of the same features, like driver side rearview mirrors. Replacing the driver side rearview mirror on a Volvo is the same as on most domestically engineered vehicles.
Open the driver side door on the Volvo and open the window. This allows you to hold the mirror and remove the mounting bolts at the same time.
Locate the triangular plastic cover on the inside of the driver side door. This cover hides the wiring harness and mounting nuts for the mirror and it is located just opposite the plastic mirror shell.
Remove the triangular cover from the inside of the door by pulling on it with your hand. The cover does not screw on or bolt on.
Disconnect the two ends of the wiring harness by pulling the two plastic ends apart.
Remove the three nuts that hold the mirror onto the door with a 12 mm socket and ratchet. When removing the third bolt, hold the mirror with one hand while you remove the bolt with the other. This prevents the mirror from falling off the door.
Pull the mirror out of the door. The studs on the plastic shell come out with the mirror. Place the new mirror against the door with the studs going into the three holes.
Hold the mirror in place with your hand while you bolt it into the door with the 12 mm socket and ratchet.
Reconnect the wiring harness by pushing the two connectors together.
Place the triangular cover onto the inside of the door and lightly strike it with your fist to snap it into place.
