How to Replace a Headlight With an HID Headlight on a 2007 Tahoe

HID headlight replacement on a 2007 Chevy Tahoe is the same as replacing an ordinary headlight. The only difference is the type of bulb used in the replacement. Although most vehicles have a way of accessing the headlights by going under the hood, the 2007 Chevy Tahoe requires the removal of the grille bolts to access the headlights. Fortunately, it is a straightforward procedure.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Replacement HID headlamp
  • Place the Tahoe in the Park position and remove the keys from the ignition.

  • Use the socket wrench to remove the six bolts found on top of the grille. If you are replacing the driver's side headlight, move to the driver's side front wheel. If replacing the passenger's side headlight, move to the passenger's side front wheel. Go under the vehicle and locate the wheel well above the tire.

  • Remove the two screws, three push pins and two pop pins in the wheel well. Pull the lining of the wheel towards you.

  • Use the socket wrench to remove the two bolts that go into the fender. You will now be able to pull back the bumper and access the headlights.

  • Pull the headlamp towards you, but do not remove it from the vehicle. Unplug the electrical connector connected to the back of the headlamp assembly.

  • Pull up on the grille and pull the headlamp assembly out of the vehicle. Install the new headlamp assembly by connecting the electrical connector to the back of the unit and gently pushing it into the vehicle. Pull up on the grille so that the headlamp assembly will fit.

  • Reattach the two bolts that attach the bumper to the fender. Attach the two screws, three push pins and two pop pin back into the wheel. Reattach the six bolts that attach the grille to the vehicle.
