How to Replace Transmission Fluid in a Mazda 3

When your Mazda 3 runs low on transmission fluid, it's important to replace it to keep your transmission properly lubricated. The vehicle burns fluid from time to time, so the transmission fluid levels should be checked weekly. This will add to the performance and longevity of your Mazda 3. The transmission dipstick tells whether you need to add more fuel with two lines---one on top and one on bottom. Fluid should measure between these lines if your car has enough transmission fluid.

  • Allow your car to run for approximately 10 to 15 minutes. This will give the engine time to reach operating temperatures.

  • Locate the transmission dipstick, which will be at the rear of your engine. Pull the dipstick from the transmission.

  • Wipe transmission oil from the dipstick and reinsert it.

  • Pull the dipstick from the transmission. Measure the transmission oil levels (see Introduction).

  • Add more transmission oil by pouring it in the hole from which you pulled the dipstick.

  • Measure transmission oil levels and add more as needed.
