How to Repair Auto Paint Scratches

Cars are vulnerable to damage on its exterior as cars are usually left outdoors. There are many types of damage, but common problems for cars are scratches in the exterior paint. Many car owners do not want to see this. If the scratch is not too deep, you might not have to bring your car into the auto repair shop. With some inexpensive items that are easily attainable in your local car shop, you can fix the scratch in your car's paint.

Things You'll Need

  • 2000-Grit Sandpaper
  • Rubbing Compound
  • Microfiber Towel
  • Car Polish
  • Rinse the scratched area with warm water.

  • Sand down the scratches with a 2000-grit sandpaper, utilizing gentle pressure. As you sand, periodically wet the sandpaper with warm water to remove any loose debris.

  • Apply rubbing compound onto the recently sanded area of the car using a microfiber towel. Rub into the surface of the area until it is smooth. Follow the compound's instructions on the product label.

  • Dry the smooth area with a microfiber towel until all residue and water are gone.

  • Apply car polish onto the sanded area using a microfiber cloth until the area is shiny and smooth.
