How to Rejet an Edelbrock Carburetor

Aside from their distinctive chrome finish, Edelbrock carburetors are known for their ability to accept a wide range of performance modifications. Changing the carburetor’s jets, usually referred to as “rejetting,” is one of the more common modifications. Within the carburetor are two jets that determine in part how much gasoline enters the carburetor. Fortunately, accessing and changing the jets usually takes only a few minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat screwdriver
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • New jets
  • Loosen the clamp that secures the tip of the fuel line to the inlet valve on the back of the passenger’s side of the carburetor with a flat screwdriver.

  • Pull the fuel line off the carburetor.

  • Remove the screws that secure the air horn to the top of the carburetor with a Phillips screwdriver. The air horn is the carburetor’s entire one-piece lid. Note that screws are located around all four edges of the air horn.

  • Lift the air horn off the carburetor. Note that two thin metal rods hang from underneath the air horn. The bottom of each rod slides through a small metal fitting with a slot cut across the top of the fitting. These two fittings are the jets.

  • Insert the tip of a flat screwdriver into the slot that is cut across the top of the jet, then rotate the jet with the screwdriver in a counterclockwise direction until the jet detaches from the carburetor.

  • Remove the remaining jet in the same manner used to remove the first one.

  • Insert each of the two new jets into their respective ports within the carburetor, then rotate both jets in a clockwise direction with the standard screwdriver until they are secure.

  • Lower the air horn onto the top of the carburetor, ensuring that the two metal rods that hang from underneath the air horn slide into the center of the two jets.

  • Insert and tighten each of the air horn’s retaining screws with the Phillips screwdriver.

  • Push the fuel line onto the carburetor’s inlet valve and tighten the hose clamp with the flat screwdriver.
