How to Fix a Scratched Carbon Fiber Hood

Carbon fiber hoods are used on many racecars to lighten the weight at the front of the car and release pressure from the wheels. The carbon fiber allows the car to move much faster. Just like any other surface on the car, the carbon fiber hood can scratch easily, but the repair is minimal and should not take long. You can purchase your repair supplies at most auto detail stores.

Things You'll Need

  • Mild soap
  • Water
  • Soft sponge
  • Soft cloths
  • Wet and dry sandpaper (ultra fine 2,000-grit to 3,000-grit)
  • Bowl
  • Eye dropper
  • Wash the surface with mild soap, water, and a soft sponge. Dry with a soft cloth.

  • Using the eye dropper, combine two drops of mild soap and some cold water in a bowl. Then dip the sandpaper into the mix.

  • Begin lightly sanding the area on and around the scratch. The key is not to sand down the scratch, but to sand the surface around it until the surface becomes even and level all around. You may not remove the scratch, but the surface will be even and smooth.

  • Dry off the surface with a soft cloth.
