2002 Ford Taurus Coolant Capacity

The 2002 Ford Taurus had two V-6 engines available, and both displaced 3.0 liters. The base 3.0-liter engine produced 157 horsepower, whereas the Duratec 3.0-liter engine produced a more respectable 200 horsepower. These two engines also differed in how much coolant they used.

Coolant Capacity

  • If your Taurus has the OHV, 3.0-liter engine, then its cooling system holds 2.9 gallons. If it has the DOHD, 3.0-liter Duratec engine, then it holds 2.65 gallons.

Coolant Type

  • Ford filled the 2002 Taurus's cooling system with one of two types of coolant, so you need to check the color of the coolant in your Taurus's cooling system reservoir first.

If the coolant is green, it uses Motorcraft Premium Engine Coolant, or an equivalent coolant meeting Ford specification ESE-M97B44–A mixed with cool, clean water in a 50-50 ratio. If your Taurus's cooling system reservoir has yellow coolant in it, then it uses Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant, or equivalent coolant meeting Ford Specification WSS-M97B51–A1 mixed with cool, clean water in a 50-50 ratio.
