Wheel locks are made from extremely tough, hardened steel and are designed to prevent wheels from being stolen. They come with a special socket or key that allows them to be removed only by the vehicle owner. When this key is lost or the wheel locks become stripped or damaged they must be removed by other means. Special wheel lock removal sockets are used to remove the damaged wheel locks from the lug nut studs. Wheel lock removal sockets are similar to standard sockets, but are made from extremely hard steel and contain special teeth inside the socket to grip rounded lug nuts and broken wheel locks.
Place the wheel lock removal socket over the broken wheel lock.
Pound the removal socket onto the broken wheel lock using the 5-pound mini sledgehammer. Continue pounding until the removal socket is fully seated.
Install an extension onto the impact wrench. Insert the extension into the wheel lock removal socket.
Set the impact wrench on its strongest reverse setting.
Pull the trigger on the impact wrench and remove the broken wheel lock stud.
Repeat Steps 1 to 5 for each subsequent broken wheel lock.
