How to Remove the Door Panel From a BMW 530i

There are several user-serviceable items that can be addressed by removing the door panel of your BMW 530i. You can replace the factory speakers, replace a broken window motor or put a window back on track. Removing the door panel to access the interior of the door is the first step, of course--but with some basic tools you'll find that this isn't an insurmountable barrier.

Things You'll Need

  • Small flat-blade screwdriver
  • Torx T20 driver
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Panel tool
  • Put the tip of a small flat-blade screwdriver carefully underneath the edge of the round plastic screw cover located behind the door release handle. Pry off the cover. Loosen and remove the Torx T20 screw behind the cover.

  • Pry around the edges of the power switches panel located on the armrest, using the tip of your screwdriver. Pull the panel out when it's loose and unplug the wiring connectors on the back.

  • Loosen and remove the Phillips screw located in the door air vent. The air vent is round and located in the lower front edge of the door.

  • Pry around the bottom edge and sides of the door panel with a panel tool to release the clips holding the panel onto the door.

  • Pull the panel out from the door slightly and unplug the wire connectors plugged into the door panel.

  • Lift the panel up and off the door.
