When the brake lights fail on your Dodge Stratus, you should not neglect them. Your brake lights are the only indication that other drivers have when you are slowing or stopping. Without functional brake lights, you risk a rear-end collision if the driver behind you is not aware that you are stopping. The Dodge Stratus uses a 3157 stop light bulb available at most auto parts stores. Change the bulb at home to save yourself the expense of a service specialist.
Open the trunk of your Stratus and pull the trunk liner away from the taillight assembly. Pull the electrical connection off the connector on the bulb.
Pull the three clips free that secure the light assembly. There are two on the outside edge of the light assembly and one on the inside edge.
Pull the light assembly out of the mounting area. Grasp the bulb and turn it counter-clockwise to remove it from the light assembly. Pull the bulb straight out of the socket and discard it.
Push the new bulb into the socket. Insert the bulb into the taillight assembly and turn it clockwise until it is secure. Push the wiring harness connection into place until it clicks.
Replace the taillight assembly in the mounting area. Push the three retaining clips into place. Replace the trunk liner.
Repeat the process on the opposite light if needed. Close the trunk and test the lights.
