How to Change a Headlight Bulb in a 2002 Buick LeSabre

Driving your 2002 Buick LeSabre at night without two functioning headlights is dangerous and illegal. If either headlight bulb burns out, you should have it replaced immediately. The LeSabre is equipped with halogen headlight insert bulbs, which reside in the headlamp assembly. While some suggest you replace the bulbs in pairs, this is not necessary. If you are able bodied, are mechanically inclined, and own a few tools, you can replace the headlight bulb in less than 20 minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket set
  • Replacement bulb
  • Raise the hood and remove the two retaining bolts from the top of the headlamp assembly, using the socket set.

  • Pull the headlamp assembly outward by hand until you can access the rear of the assembly.

  • Rotate the headlight socket counterclockwise and pull the socket out of the rear of the headlamp assembly.

  • Pull the bulb out of the socket by hand and insert the replacement bulb. Never touch the glass on a halogen bulb with your skin. Oils from your skin will superheat once the bulb is turned on and cause it to burn out. Test the bulb by turning on the headlights for a moment before reassembly.

  • Push the socket back into the headlamp assembly, making sure to align the retaining tabs in the socket with their respective slots in the headlamp assembly. Turn the socket clockwise until it seats.

  • Push the headlamp assembly back into position and reinstall the retaining bolts, using the socket set.
