How to Replace the Battery in a 2007 Chevy Silverado

The 2007 Chevy Silverado is Chevrolet's premier light-duty pickup truck. While the truck is versatile enough to perform many jobs, without a working battery it's essentially useless. A dead battery prevents the Silverado from starting and can leave you sitting on a job site with no way to get going. Fortunately, replacing the battery is fairly quick and easy for anyone with some basic automotive repair skills, a few tools and about 10 minutes of your time.

Things You'll Need

  • Latex gloves
  • Battery terminal wrench
  • Socket set
  • Wire brush (optional)
  • Replacement battery
  • Put your latex gloves (or latex-free gloves if you have an allergy) on. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the old battery using the battery terminal wrench. Remove the positive battery cable in the same manner.

  • Unbolt the battery hold-down hardware using the socket set. Move the hold-down hardware out of the way, then lift the battery up and out of the battery tray.

  • Put the replacement battery into the battery tray in the same orientation as the old battery. Reinstall the battery hold-down hardware in reverse of how you removed it.

  • Clean the battery cable ends with the wire brush if there are any signs of corrosion on the cable ends.

  • Reconnect the positive battery cable with the battery terminal wrench. Reconnect the negative battery cable in the same manner.
