How to Replace an O2 Sensor on a Saturn Vue

The O2 sensor on a Saturn Vue is located on the catalytic converter. Replacement O2 sensors can be purchased from most auto parts stores. After about 100,000 miles, your Vue's O2 sensor may start to fail. You'll know it's failing when you experience a rough idle and a marked decrease in engine performance. A failed O2 sensor may also trigger the check engine light to come on. A quick diagnostic check at most auto parts stores is free and will confirm that the O2 sensor has failed and needs to be replaced.

Things You'll Need

  • Floor jack
  • Jack stands
  • O2 sensor removal tool
  • Socket wrench
  • Jack up on the front jack point of the Vue. The jack point is the front crossmember.

  • Place jack stands under the front pinch welds of the vehicle and lower the Vue onto the stands.

  • Climb under the vehicle and remove the electrical leads running to the O2 sensor.

  • Place the O2 removal tool over the end of the O2 sensor on the catalytic converter in the middle of the Vue's exhaust system.

  • Turn the O2 sensor and tool counterclockwise to remove the sensor from the exhaust.

  • Install the new O2 sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal.
