The track bar on a Dodge Ram is known to be a weak link in the suspension of the truck. The factory track bar is not capable of supporting bigger tires, lift kits, or increased suspension travel. Track bars are responsible for keeping the front axle of the truck centered underneath the frame of the truck. There are several aftermarket companies that manufacture adjustable track bars that will last the trucks' lifetime and can be modified or rebuilt very easily.
Align the wheels of the vehicle so that they point straight forward and the steering wheel is centered. Apply the parking brake and get out of the truck.
Remove the factory track bar. Two 18mm bolts, one at each end, will secure the track bar to the truck. Each bolt has a tab nut on the backside of the bracket. Use the ratchet and socket to loosen and remove each bolt. Slide the factory track bar down and out of the brackets.
Install the new track bar by inserting the frame end of the track bar first. Slide the 18mm bolt through the bracket and track bar and hand-tighten the bolt into the tab nut.
Insert the adjustable end of the track bar into the tubing by threading it to the proper length. Tire size and lift height will determine the length of the track bar. Hold the end of the track bar up to the bracket and line up the holes in the bracket with the track bar.
Slide the track bar into the bracket at the axle housing and insert the 18mm bolt through the hole. Place the tab nut on the backside and tighten down the bolt with the 18mm socket. Tighten down the bolt on the top of the track bar, as well. Tighten the bolts as tight as possible, and then loosen them by 1/4 turn to allow the bushings to move freely.
