How to Replace a Buick Rendezvous Power Window Switch

The Buick Rendezvous was manufactured with optional power windows, which use several switches to operate the motorized window regulator. These switches can fail due to moisture, overload or mechanical damage. The average backyard mechanic can replace a power window switch assembly in a Buick in about 20 minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Socket set
  • Open the hood and disconnect the battery by turning the positive terminal bolt in a counterclockwise direction. Set the terminal bolt aside, away from any metal or the battery itself.

  • Gently pry up the rear section of the panel with a screwdriver to disengage the plastic tabs that hold it to the armrest. Once the tabs are up, continue to pull the panel away from the armrest until the wires beneath are visible. The switches come out as an assembly, attached to the longer section of switch panel plastic.

  • Disconnect the switch assembly from the wiring harness by pulling the adapter plug from the rear of the switches. The plug is designed to only fit into the switches in one direction and will have a small tab that can be released by levering the screwdriver.

  • Replace the switch assembly with a new unit, and attach it to the wiring harness by pressing the adapter plug into the window switch assembly socket. Press the entire switch panel back into the armrest opening, front section first. Secure the front tab, then press the panel into the rear tab until it is seated.

  • Reconnect the battery by turning the positive terminal bolt clockwise.
