How to Replace a Power Window Motor on a Nissan Sentra

When replacing a window motor in a Sentra, specify which door needs the motor replaced as the window motors are all different. The electrical system should be checked thoroughly prior to replacing the window motor. Check the fuse and the window switch for power to make sure they are working. If other windows operate, it is possible that the window switch is malfunctioning, which is a common problem. If the window motor is getting power when the switch is operated the window motor has definitely failed.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Common screwdriver
  • ¼-inch drive ratchet
  • Set of ¼-inch drive sockets
  • Remove the two Phillips screws in the armrest using the Phillips screwdriver. Remove any Phillips screws that may be around the circumference of the door panel (this is year dependent). Insert the common screwdriver between the door panel and door and pry out the trim fasteners on all three sides.

  • Pull the door panel away from the door a few inches and remove the plastic retainers on the door latch and lock rods where they are attached to the door panel. Use the common screwdriver to push the plastic retainer snaps off the rods freeing them from the door handle. Disconnect the electrical connector from the window switch.

  • Lift the door panel away from the door. Pull the moisture shield from the door, exposing the window motor. Disconnect the electrical connector on the window motor.

  • Remove the three bolts securing the window motor to the window regulator. Pull the motor straight off the regulator. Install the square shaft on the new window motor into the square opening in the regulator. If it does not align, rotate the window motor slightly until the shaft slides in; then while holding the motor in, rotate the motor back until the holes line up. Install the bolts and tighten.

  • Install the electrical connector in the window motor. Install the door panel and door rods in reverse order of removal.
