The Ford Escape radiator fan motor can be replaced individually. The motor is purchased without the fan blade, which must be transferred to the new motor. Before replacing a radiator fan motor it should first be tested to make sure that the motor is the problem. There are many circuits in this system that commonly fail. Disconnecting the electrical connector and hot-wiring the fan will determine whether the fan motor is the problem or another circuit.
Remove the top radiator hose from the radiator, leaving the engine side connected. Make sure the engine is cold before attempting to remove this hose. Use a screwdriver to loosen the clamps. Remove the electrical connector, which is close to the fan on the harness.
Unbolt the radiator fan shroud by using the ¼-inch drive ratchet and appropriate socket. Remove the top and side bolts. Lift the fan shroud straight up, holding the upper radiator hose to the side.
Remove the nut on the fan blade center shaft using a socket. Pull the fan off the shaft. Remove the bolts holding the motor to the shroud using a socket and ratchet. Lift the motor out of the shroud.
Install the new motor, making sure it is oriented so that the electrical harness is in the same location. Attach the fan blade and the nut and tighten. Re-install the parts in reverse order of removal.
