The Dodge Caravan has been around for many years and has had many different generational designs, both inside and out. However, replacing interior lights in the Caravan has remained a fairly simple procedure. Burnt-out dash lights require removing the entire dashboard to gain access to the bulb replacements, and should be done by a professional; but the dome, map and door interior lights can easily be replaced at home.
Inspect the lens cover of the intended bulb replacement assembly. Most Caravans use a tab slotted lens cover, but in much older Caravans, there could be an exterior retaining screw or two which will need to be removed with a Phillips screwdriver.
Insert a small flathead screwdriver between the lens cover and the interior light plastic housing (near the middle) on the left or right side.
Apply a slight prying pressure with the screwdriver against the lens cover to reveal the retaining tabs. The plastic housing will allow some flexibility, but be gentle with the screwdriver to prevent cracking or breaking the lens cover. The tabs are only 1/4-inch long or so. Pry the lens cover to the opposite side of the housing to release the tabs from the slots in the interior light housing.
Insert the screwdriver upward and then downward (gently) to remove the lens on one side once the tabs are revealed.
Remove the exposed bulb or bulbs inside the housing. Because of the many generational designs of the Caravan, removal may be differ slightly for different generations. Most will press gently and twist counterclockwise to release, or simply pull out from the sockets to extract.
Bring the spent light bulbs to an automotive parts store to make sure you purchase the correct replacement bulbs.
Reinsert the bulb into the socket and then replace the lens, again applying the small flathead screwdriver to gently manipulate the lens cover back into place. Replace any exterior lens cover retaining screw(s), if applicable.
