The Corvette is one of the longest running and best known nameplates in the world. From its humble beginnings with a two-speed transmission and a six-cylinder engine, the fiberglass-bodied was applauded for its smooth handling, despite a lack of performance. By 1955 the Corvette was noted for its power and maintained the reputation through the decades that followed. The model offered from 1997 to 2004 marked Corvette's evolution to a world-class sports car with a 5.7L V8 345 horsepower engine.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system. Push the outlet hose clamp back and then remove the hose from the water pump inlet.
Remove the bolts that hold the water inlet pump. Take out the water pump inlet. Lift out the thermostat housing with the O-ring seal intact as part of the assemble.
Set the new thermostat housing in place. Make sure that the O-ring is positioned in the groove properly.
Position the water pump inlet with the thermostat. Set the bolt in place on the water pump inlet and finger tighten them. Torque the bolts to 11 foot pounds.
Connect the outlet hose to the water pump inlet. Slide the clamp into position on the hose at the water outlet.
Use the appropriate type of coolant and fill the cooling system to the proper level. Start the engine, check for any leaking fluids and make the necessary adjustments to the parts installed.
