Drivers of the 2000 Dodge Durango may find a surprise when their power seats shift and creak as they move around while driving or when they drive over bumpy roads. This malfunction can be an unwelcome distraction and is specific to the 2000 model of the Dodge Durango. Learn how to remedy the situation by reading the following tips.
Confirm the problem. Shift your weight around from side to side on the seat. Listen for a creaking noise coming from the outboard front attachment area.
Use a screwdriver to take off the outboard power seat track cover by unscrewing the Phillips head screws and unsnapping the cover over it.
Locate the M8 attaching bolts and remove them, too. Leave the two bolts at the rear. Pick up the outboard seat track foot about half an inch to find the locater pin. You may make the opening as much as 1 inch but no bigger.
Lubricate the area around the pin with a special lubricant. This lubricant is available as Part number 04318066.
Put the power seat's outboard foot locating pin in the locating hole's center, making sure not to touch metal surfaces. If you have trouble doing this, you may need to unscrew the rear power seat track attaching bolts so that the locating hole can accommodate the locater pin.
Use the front M8 attaching bolts to secure the power seat track. Torque all the front and back fasteners to 27 Nm (20 foot pounds) with a torque wrench. Reattach the power seat track covers.
Verify that the repairs have fixed the problem by undergoing the diagnoses procedure and finding no squeaking, shifting or creaking. Repeat the process if the squeak persists.
