How to Drop the Oil Pan in a Oldsmobile Alero

General Motors produced the Oldsmobile Alero from 1999 through 2004. It is a compact vehicle. During its production, it had 2.2L engines, 2.4L engines. The most common of these is the 2.2L engine which contains one oil pan. Dropping the oil pan in the Alero is necessary when it has been damaged or needs to be cleaned.

Things You'll Need

  • Jack and jack stands
  • Oil drip pan
  • Wrench
  • Use a jack to raise the Alero off the ground safely then support is properly using jack stands. The manufacturer of the jack and stands provides the necessary methods to safely secure the vehicle on the stands.

  • Position an oil drip pan under the engine oil pan, located under the Alero, about in the center of the engine block. Use a wrench to disconnect the back facing oil plug and allow the oil to drain fully from the oil pan into the drain pan before reinserting the oil plug.

  • Remove the engine mount strut bracket, drive belt and the lower upper air compressor bolts using a wrench. These are located under the vehicle next to or right on top of the oil pan, and will easily pull off the vehicle once the bolts are removed.

  • Disconnect each of the 15 bolts that line the outer edge of the oil pan using a wrench and a crisscross method so that one bolt is removed from each side, one at a time. The oil pan will drop off once the bolts are removed.
