Sometimes when you perform other repairs on your Jetta or during a vehicle accident, plastic parts, like the coolant reservoir, will become damaged. The process to replace your coolant recovery tank, or coolant reservoir as it is called in the Jetta, is a fairly simple one. Grab your tools and get a new Jetta coolant reservoir in place in about an hour.
Turn off the engine and let it cool at least an hour. This lets the coolant shrink back into the radiator so you displace as little as possible. Disconnect the negative battery cable as a precaution.
Unbolt the coolant reservoir from the engine compartment. Be careful of the coolant reservoir hose.
Get a rag and disconnect the coolant reservoir hose. You may also want a small drain pan to catch any coolant that spills. Dispose of the old coolant in a tightly sealed container.
Hook the new coolant reservoir hose to the radiator and bolt it into place.
Fill the reservoir with approved coolant, properly mixed with water, to the cold fill line.
Start your Jetta engine and check for leaks around the coolant reservoir hose.
