A spare tire, jack and tire-changing tools are standard safety features included in every new and "certified pre-owned" Dodge pickup truck. It is important to learn how to change a tire on your truck before you experience a blowout or flat tire at a time when roadside assistance isn't readily available. You can safely change a tire on your Dodge truck in just a few minutes using only the tools included with your truck.
Park the vehicle on a flat, even surface away from any potential oncoming traffic. If your truck has an automatic transmission, put the truck in "Park." For manual transmissions, put the truck in "Reverse." If you have four-wheel drive, engage the "4L" option on the transfer case.
Remove the jack and tire-changing tools from the storage compartment located under the front passenger seat.
Remove the spare tire. Assemble the jack handle according to the instructions included with your tire-changing toolkit, and attach the wheel wrench to the jack extension tube. Insert the tube as far as possible through the hole on the underside of the rear bumper, and turn the handle of the wheel wrench counterclockwise to lower the spare tire to the ground.
Loosen, but do not remove, the lug nuts on the wheel by turning them one full turn counterclockwise while the wheel is still on the ground.
Assemble the jack according to the instructions in your tire-changing toolkit or user's guide.
Position the jack under the rear portion of the lower control arm when changing front tires or under the axle between the wheel and shock bracket when changing rear tires. Refer to your user's guide for illustrations of these locations if you are unsure where to position the jack.
Raise the vehicle by turning the jack screw clockwise until the tire is just far enough off the ground to install the spare.
Remove the lug nuts and wheel.
Put the spare tire onto the vehicle and reinstall the lug nuts. Tighten the lug nuts lightly; do not tighten them fully.
Lower the vehicle by turning the jack screw counterclockwise until all four wheels are securely on the ground.
Remove the jack and tighten the lug nuts securely.
