How to Remove a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Glove Box

As beloved as the beast is now, many have forget the derision the Cherokee suffered through its early days. Following a line of traditional Jeeps, the wagon-bodied, monocoque-frame Cherokee was seen as a largely unworthy inheritor of the badge. It was too soft, too urban, too civilized and just too practical to be called a Jeep. But the Cherokee eventually proved all of its doubters wrong, not only justifying its own place in the off-road pantheon, but eventually coming to define the very words "Sport Utility Vehicle."

  • Open the glove box until the stops on the back edge are resting against the rubber stop bumpers in the upper glove box opening. Reach into the glove box and, with the middle finger of each hand, push the rubber flap on the two glove box stop bumpers toward the front of the vehicle.

  • Roll the glove box door down until the stops on the back edge of the glove box pass through the openings in the upper glove box opening. Grasp both ends of the glove box door, then twist and pull the door as necessary to disengage the inboard hinge hook from the inboard hinge pin on the dashboard.

  • Raise the glove box door until it is perpendicular to the instrument panel then twist the door slightly counterclockwise and shake the door slightly to disengage the remaining two hinge hooks from the instrument panel.

  • Pull the glove box straight out of the dashboard, until you can access the wiring plug behind it. Disconnect the plug, and pull the glove box out. Push it up and in to engage the bumpers.

  • Install the box in the reverse order of removal. Align the box with the hinge hooks, and plug the wiring harness in. Twist the box to hook it in. Lift the box up, and twist and compress the sides to reengage the top hooks.
