If the blower motor in your Ford Taurus has stopped working, you can replace it with a new unit available from the Ford dealer or most auto parts stores. (Note that if the blower is working at one speed only, the motor is not the problem.) The blower motor is located in the air duct under the passenger’s side of the dash. It is removed from inside the car, working from the passenger’s side floorboard.
Remove the negative battery cable from the battery with a wrench or socket and ratchet. Make sure to isolate the cable from the battery while you work on the electrical system.
Remove the instrument panel isolator from under the dash. Pull it down and out of the way so you can access the blower motor.
Locate and remove wiring harness connector from the blower motor. Pull it straight off the motor, grasping the connector, not the wires. Damage to the wires can occur if you pull on them.
Remove the three mounting screws from the blower motor with a Phillips screwdriver. Lower the blower motor out of the air duct and remove it from the car. Install the new blower motor in place of the old one, then install the three mounting screws.
Tighten the mounting screws with a Phillips screwdriver until the blower is secure. Be careful not to crack the housing as you tighten the screws.
Install the warning harness connector, pushing it straight onto the connector on the blower motor. Push it on straight so you do not damage the connector or bend the terminals.
Replace the insulator panel under the dash the reinstall the negative battery cable on the battery terminal. Tighten the retaining bolt with a socket and ratchet or wrench.
Turn the key to the “On” position and test the blower by turning on the blower motor switch. Cycle it through the speeds to ensure they are all working.
