How to Remove the Center Bezel of a Jeep Wrangler

Jeep Wranglers that came with automatic transmissions have the shifter mounted in the center console of the Jeep. The shifter bezel that surrounds the shifter can be removed to change the back light used to illuminate the gear indicator. The process of removing it is very simple and requires just a couple of minutes. You will need a thin, flat tool to pop the bezel out of the console but that is all that is required.

Things You'll Need

  • Thin, flat screw driver or Jeep tool C-7455
  • Park your Jeep on flat ground and set the parking brake. With the engine off, turn the key to the run position so you can move the shifter.

  • Move the transmission shifter into the neutral position so that you have more room to work. Remove the shifter handle from the shifter by pulling straight up on the handle. It will come off with a quick pop, so be ready for it.

  • Set the handle aside for now and slide a very thin, flat screw driver or Jeep trim stick, part number C-7455, into the space around the bezel and release the locking tabs. Pull the bezel out of the console.

  • Remove the light on the bottom of the bezel by turning the socket 1/4 turn and pulling it straight out. Lift the bezel straight up and slide it off the shifter.
