Found on many sport and luxury cars, resonators soften high pitch frequencies emitted by the sound and pressure waves compressed inside mufflers. Located near the exhaust system, either between the muffler and catalytic converter or beneath the air intake hose, resonators can be made of metal or glass. Depending on the type of car, resonators resemble small mufflers or bottles. Stock resonators are often removed to increase the volume of a car's exhaust system, a practice common among many sports and custom car enthusiasts.
Refer to your owner's manual for the exact location of the resonator.
Unscrew the intake hose clamp connected to the air filter using your hand. Put the clamp in a safe, memorable place as you will be attaching it again.
Pull the air intake hose up and place it to the side with the clamp.
Unscrew the resonator's clamp using one hand and remove the resonator.
Insert the replacement of your choice and secure wit a Phillips screwdriver. Many car enthusiasts prefer glasspacks, a straight pipe made of glass. Secure tightly.
Reattach the air intake hose and screw the clamp into place firmly.
