How to Wire a Monsoon Stereo

Monsoon is a car stereo system that is used by a series of vehicles. Depending on the receiver you are using, you might have anything from a tape deck to a CD player with MP3 input options. The receiver deck is small and fits in the place of any other current tape deck you have in your car stereo system. However, the most difficult part is the actual wiring of your stereo, as each stereo has its own set of wires you must hook up in order to use the equipment.

Things You'll Need

  • Wire cutters/strippers
  • Tape
  • Pen
  • Wire caps
  • Remove the current stereo from your vehicle. Leave the stereo wiring harness in place. You can use the wires from the current harness with the one provided with the Monsoon stereo.

  • Select a wire currently in the original stereo wire hardness and follow each to see where the connection takes you. The color of the original wires vary --- do not look at this to determine the wiring placement.

  • Wrap a piece of tape around each wire that you determine the placement and write on the tape where it connects. Do this for all the wires as it is extremely helpful later.

  • Cut all the wires free from the current harness. Leave the tape explanations in tack. Strip an inch or so off each of the wires with your wire cutters/strippers.

  • Attach the power wire to the orange wire of the Monsoon stereo harness (twist the exposed copper wire of the two wires together), then insert the wire into a wire cap. This protects the wire from any exposure. Attach the black wire of the current harness to the Monsoon's black wire. Black is always the ground so you don't need to worry about this connection. Connect the green/white Monsoon wire to the front left speaker wire, then gray/black/blue Monsoon wire to the front wire connection, the blue/black and green monsoon wire to the rear left speaker wire and the purple/black/violet wire to the rear right wire.

  • Connect the Monsoon stereo harness into the connection port on the rear of the Monsoon receiver, then insert the antenna jack into the "Ant" port on the receiver. Slide the receiver into the open take deck location to complete the wiring process.
