How to Remove the Radio From a 2002 VW Jetta

Removing the radio in a 2002 VW Jetta is an extremely simple procedure that will not damage the car's computer. This is a 5 to 10 minute job for anyone with the right tools.

Things You'll Need

  • 1999-2003 Jetta radio keys
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Go to your nearest VW dealer or car stereo shop and buy (or ask to borrow) a set of VW radio keys. You can also find these online at any number of retailers, or eBay.

  • Insert the VW radio keys into the slots to the left of the "seek" button and to the right of the "tuning" button.

  • Push the keys in with some force, while at the same time pulling the factory radio out of the dash as far as you can. The wires behind the radio will keep you from pulling it all the way out.

  • Disconnect the power, speaker and antenna connections behind the radio. The power and speaker connections will be harnesses that may have to be removed by inserting a flat head screwdriver into the plastic clip to free the harness. The antenna connection can be removed simply by pulling the plug out of the radio.
