How to Add a Third Row Seat

Most full-size trucks and SUVs offer an optional third row seat. These bench seats provide extra passenger space. Many vehicles use a similar mounting pattern for third row seats. However, seats designed for one vehicle may not fit another. Buy a third row seat designed especially for your car from a car accessories store or from the auto dealer.

Things You'll Need

  • Third row seat
  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Socket wrench
  • Bolt-on latch
  • Lift the rear hatch of the truck. Lift the bottom of the trim panel and slide the edge of the carpet out from under the panel. Peel carpet back to uncover the mounting brackets for the third row seat.

  • Remove the square plastic clips covering the factory seat mounting points. Pry the clips off with a flat-head screwdriver.

  • Lift the third row seat and slide it behind the second row. Align the third row seat's mounting brackets with the mounting points on the floor. Lower the seat onto the mounting points so that the mounting brackets attach to the mounting points.

  • Tighten the mounting brackets using a socket wrench. Slide a bolt-on latch through the hole of the mounting bracket, if desired. This latch provides additional security by tightening the connection.

  • Slide the carpet back into place.
