How to Make Horsepower With a 350 TPI

A Tuned Port Injection (TPI) intake is one of the oldest brands of performance air intakes for domestic and foreign vehicles. Unlike traditional air intakes that normally connect to the throttle body on the side of the vehicle, TPI intakes attach to the front of the engine where the most air can be pushed into the intake. Race cars often have a hood scoop cut out of the hood area where the TPI intake is located so that incoming air can be pushed directly into the intake. You can expect big horsepower gains from installing a 350 TPI intake.

Things You'll Need

  • 350 TPI intake
  • Ratchet and socket set
  • Turn the vehicle's engine off and open the vehicle's hood. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  • Use the ratchet to remove the stock intake that is connected to the front of the engine. There will be six bolts that need to be removed from the throttle body. Disconnect the wire harness from the stock intake system.

  • Pull the stock intake system off. Place the 350 TPI intake onto the throttle body and use the stock bolts to secure it onto the throttle body.

  • Pull the mass air flow sensor off of the stock intake system and insert it into the sensor port on the TPI intake. Reconnect the wire harness to the sensor.

  • Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery and close the hood.
