How to Remove a Stuck Key in a Honda Pilot

Vehicles like the Honda Pilot utilize the common ignition key technology to start the car. These keys, however, can get stuck in the ignition in some instances. If this happens to you, you will be unable to start your car, whether the car will not turn or will not come out of the ignition slot. You can try a few steps to get the key out without breaking the key or ruining the car's starter.

  • Jiggle the key back and forth, in and out of the cylinder, and attempt to pull it out while turning in both directions. You can also make sure that the wheels are straight and inactive by turning the steering wheel, putting on the parking brake and make sure that the shifter is firmly in Park.

  • Spray lubricant onto the key and into the ignition cylinder. This may allow the key to more easily slide out of the ignition with much less friction.

  • Attempt to stick a wire into the ignition slot to see if there are any loose pieces holding the key in. You can also do this by removing the panels around the dashboard and checking to see if anything is restricting the cylinder from functioning as normal.
