How to Reprogram a 2000 Chevy Impala BCM

Chevrolet vehicles since the mid-1990s have been equipped with Body Control Module (BCM) systems. Also known as keyless entry, these systems are controlled by a wireless remote. With the handheld device, you can lock and unlock your car doors, activate your trunk release and sound your panic alarm. You can program the remotes in just minutes from your driver's seat and have them ready to use right away.

  • Enter your car with your remote and your car's ignition key, and close all of the vehicle's doors behind you.

  • Insert your key into the ignition and hold the Unlock tab on the driver's side door. Be prepared to hold the tab through the following step.

  • Turn your ignition key to the "On" position and then back to "Off" twice in quick succession, and then release the "Unlock" tab on your door.

  • Wait for the door locks on the car to click automatically, and then simultaneously press and hold the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons on your BCM remote.

  • Hold the buttons for up to 30 seconds until the locks click again, and then release the buttons to complete the programming sequence.
