How to Install an Air Intake

Installing an air intake is going to be just about the same process for every vehicle. An intake tube connects to the intake manifold on top of the engine and then to an air filter at the front of the engine compartment. When you buy an air intake kit, you will need to make sure that it is the correct model for your vehicle. The kit will come with all the hardware needed for the installation.

Things You'll Need

  • Air intake tube
  • 2 metal securing clamps
  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Air filter
  • Park the vehicle in a well-lit area on level ground. Open the hood and allow the engine to completely cool before you proceed.

  • Place the intake tube in front of the air intake manifold. Place a metal securing clamp over the rubber seal. Place the intake tube over the opening on the manifold and tighten the clamp with a screwdriver.

  • Place a metal clamp around the opposite end of the intake tube. Position the air filter over the end of the intake tube. Slide the metal clamp over the rubber edge on the air filter and tighten it with a screwdriver.

  • Start the engine. Feel both ends of the intake tube for air leaks. Place you hand on the air filter to ensure that it is taking in air. Close the hood.
