Horsepower Improvements for a Dodge Ram 360

The Dodge Ram 360, also called the 5.9, has a 245-horsepower V-8 engine. The 2010 model is called the 2500 and the 3500 and features a five-year warranty. There are a number of aftermarket power improvements for the Ram that can boost horsepower, torque and acceleration, such as superchargers, Power Control Modules, headers and twin exhausts.

Supercharger

  • A supercharger uses power from the engine to force cool air into the engine's compression chamber. Superchargers can add a significant power boost to a vehicle, upwards of a 30 to 100 percent gain. Superchargers for the Dodge Ram 360 are available from Kenne Bell, Vortech, and Paxton and cost several thousand dollars.

Power Control Module

  • JET offers a Power Control Module (PCM) upgrade for the Ram that can boost horsepower and torque. The chip fine tunes the engine fuel and air in-tank to give the maximum horsepower for the fuel used. The chips are easy to install and uninstall and are available for about $250 as of 2010.

Headers

  • Headers enable the engine to more easily push out exhaust gases. Reducing the resistance of exhaust gases on the engine boosts horsepower and torque. JBA, DynaTech, Gibson, and PaceSetter all offer improved headers for the Ram 360. In 2010, the headers run about $150 each and are one of the most inexpensive ways to boost an engine's performance.

Dual Exhaust

  • Like headers, a dual exhaust system allows the engine emissions to more easily leave the engine, thereby boosting performance and horsepower. So called "cat-back" systems boost acceleration and power while also adding an aggressive sound to the engine. Several companies such as Magnaflow, Gibson and Banks offer improved exhaust systems for the Ram.
