How to Mount a Jerry Gas Can to a Jeep

The jerry can came to fame in World War II, when millions were used to help fuel the Allied armies. If you go on any off-road expeditions in your Jeep, you may want to install a jerry can so you can carry more fuel. This will allow you to travel farther into the back country in your Jeep and still have plenty of fuel to make it back. You need to install a mounting bracket to hold the jerry can. The brackets can be suited to fit any Jeep vehicle you own.

Things You'll Need

  • Power drill
  • Drill bit
  • Ratchet
  • Socket set
  • Place the jerry can in a desired location on your vehicle. Mounting the can at the rear is best, to keep fumes out of the vehicle's interior.

  • Drill 3/16-inch pilot holes into your Jeep with a power drill, matching the holes in the mounting bracket.

  • Place the installation bolts through the bottom of the mounting bracket into the vehicle. Place the nuts onto the ends of the bolts and tighten using a ratchet and socket. Continue until all four bolts have been installed.

  • Place your jerry can into the mounting bracket and secure it to the mounting bracket using the supplied strap. Pull the strap tight so that the can does not vibrate.
