How to Attach a License Plate With Security Screws

Having a license plate stolen can be a huge hassle. Paying for the replacement plate, standing in line at the DMV and then re-installing it on your car are just things that you'd rather not have to do.

Things You'll Need

  • Security screws
  • Security screw removal tool
  • License plate
  • Hold the license plate firmly against the car's license plate holder.

  • Insert the security screws into the holes on the license plate, ensuring that you go straight through the license plate and into the holes on the license plate holder.

  • Rotate the screws clockwise with your fingers until you can't turn anymore.

  • Tighten the screws the rest of the way with the removal tool that came with the screws. Be careful not to over-tighten, as you may strip the head of the screw, or break the head off completely.

  • Repeat steps 1 through 3 for the second license plate if your state requires a back and front plate.
