An in-car laptop mount will help greatly if you need to use your laptop computer within the car, as it secures the computer in a spot where it is easy to view. While car mounts are available, it is also possible to build your own mount with pipes and any type of sturdy sheet metal or wood. You can make the laptop mount modular or permanent, depending on how often your passenger seat is used (since the passenger floorboard is the ideal place for the mount).
Cut out a piece of plywood, metal or fiberglass--whichever works best for you. Cut a piece that is an inch or two wider and longer than your laptop.
Place borders around the mount if you plan to store the laptop on the mount while driving. Screw metal brackets or nail small pieces of plywood to the edges of the large piece.
Bolt or screw one pipe flange to the bottom side of the mount. Fit the pipe into the flange and attach the second flange to the pipe's other end.
Screw the bottom flange to a heavy piece of plywood if you want the mount to be modular. The plywood will weigh down the mount and keep it balanced. You can now place the mount in the front passenger side floorboard, pulling back the passenger seat so there is plenty of room.
Secure the mount to the floorboard if you want it to be permanently attached. Making sure you don't hit any lines under the chassis, drill holes into the passenger's floorboard and use the holes to screw the mount's bottom flange in place. This is only recommended if you have few a passengers.
Place the laptop computer onto the mount. If you put borders on the main surface, you might want to cut a small piece of the front border out so you can reach the laptop's lock and open it more easily.
