How to Remove Yellow Road Paint

Cars are bound to become scratched, dinged, bent and stained --- especially during construction season, when work crews are paving and painting roads. These conditions are not friendly to our vehicles and can lead to stressful situations in trying to solve these auto issues. Freshly laid yellow road paint is one of the biggest threats to your automobile's exterior. Don't panic when you spot some splatters on your car; take the necessary steps to ensure your car looks brand new again.

Things You'll Need

  • Pressure washer
  • Towel
  • Spray lubricant
  • Washcloth
  • Petroleum jelly
  • Car wax
  • Wash your car with a pressure washer immediately. Most professional car washes will get the job done, but if you have a pressure washer you can opt to do it at home. Washing your car while the road paint is still wet will loosen and remove most of it.

  • Dry the affected area completely with a towel, then spray the area with lubricant. Allow the lubricant to set on the paint for one to two hours, then take the pressure washer to the vehicle once again. The lubricant softens the paint residue without affecting your vehicle's exterior paint. Repeat this process if necessary.

  • If the paint has dried on the vehicle and proves difficult to remove, apply a liberal coating of petroleum jelly to the affected area with a soft cloth. Let the jelly sit on the road paint overnight, then wash the area with a pressure washer once again. This step should loosen any last bits of paint that remain on the vehicle.

  • Apply a generous coating of wax to your vehicle after you have removed all paint. The wax will prevent any further damage from road paint and remove any lasting signs of the paint.
