Plastic headlights quickly develop a layer of film through daily road wear and tear, diminishing the crystal clear quality of the plastic. This not only leaves your headlights looking unclean, but it also prevents the headlights from functioning at their best, as it blocks some of the light that would normally shine through. To clear up the plastic headlights, you need to grab a few ingredients from your kitchen cupboard, and begin the cleaning process.
Moisten a nylon scrubber with warm water and 1 tsp. of dish soap.
Scrub the soap into the headlights in vigorous circular movements. The soap will break away light residue.
Rinse the scrubber with warm water, and add 1 tsp. of a non-gel toothpaste to the scrubber.
Scrub the toothpaste into the plastic headlights, again using circular scrubbing movements. The toothpaste is a little more abrasive, and will cut through heavier buildup. Work quickly, and wipe the headlights with a rag soaked in warm water to remove the toothpaste.
Spray a light coating of cooking spray onto a fresh cleaning rag, and wipe into the headlights. This will restore shine to the plastic headlights while adding a protective coating that will help prevent new buildup.
