How to Check the Transmission Fluid Level in a 2001 Honda Odyssey

Honda dipped its corporate toes into the minivan segment with the release of the 1995 Odyssey. In those days, the Odyssey used a four-cylinder engine and a four-speed auto transmission. In 2001, the Odyssey used the brand's venerable 3.5-liter, V-6 engine that produced 210 horsepower and a four-speed automatic transmission.

Checking Transmission Fluid Level

  • With the 2001 Odyssey on a level surface, start the engine and let it idle until it reaches operating temperature -- roughly halfway up the temperature gauge in the instrument cluster. Turn the engine off, then open the hood and find the yellow-handled dipstick on the front, driver side of the engine compartment, just in front of the battery. Pull the dipstick out and wipe the oil off it with a clean, lint-free cloth. Reinsert the dipstick all the way, then remove it again. Check the fluid level on the dipstick relative to the two holes near the tip of the stick. A correctly filled transmission's fluid will be between the two holes on the dipstick.
