The Silhouette was Oldsmobile's first crack at taking on the Dodge, Chrysler and Plymouth minivan triplets. Though it was never as successful as its main competitors, the Silhouette's odd wedge shape certainly made it stand out in a crowd. The 1994 Silhouette had two engines available, including a base 3.1-liter and an optional 3.8-liter.
Oldsmobile recommended using API-certified 10W-30 engine oil in all temperatures, but it also stated that 5W-30 is acceptable, as long as the outside temperature remained below 60 degrees F before the next oil change. Both of the Silhouette's engines had an oil capacity of 4.5 quarts, including the filter.
