1997 Acura Tl 3.2L Manufacturer Recommended Lubrication

The 1997 Acura TL had two engine options available -- 2.5-liter five-cylinder and a 3.2-liter V-6 -- and both engines hooked up to a four-speed automatic transmission. Regardless of which engine your TL has, the lubricants for the engine, transmission and differential are the same.

Automatic Transmission

  • For the automatic transmission, Acura recommended using Honda Premium Formula Automatic Transmission Fluid. You can use Dexron-III if the recommended fluid is not available, but you'll need to switch back to the recommended fluid as soon as you can.

Differential

  • Acura recommended using either SAE 90 or SAE 80W-90 hypoid gear oil with an API rating of GL4 or GL5 in the TL's differential.

Engine Oil

  • Acura recommended using 5W-30 engine oil in the Acura TL in all outside temperatures. You can opt for 10W-30 for your TL if outside temperatures remain above -20 degrees F.
