While the light-duty F-150 received a shocking style revision in 1997, the F-250 and F-350 pickups continued on with the same, square body style as before. It wasn't until 1999 that these Super Duty pickups inherited the new, rounded body style of their smaller sibling. The 1997 Ford F-250 Super Duty had a trio of transmissions available -- two manuals and one automatic -- with various transmission capacities.
The Mazda R2 transmission -- a five-speed manual -- in the 1997 F-250 Super Duty's has a total capacity of 3.8 quarts. The ZF S5-47 five-speed manual transmission has a 3.4-quart capacity. The E4OD transmission -- four-speed automatic -- has a 15.9-quart capacity with two-wheel drive, or a 16.14-quart capacity with four-wheel drive. All three transmissions use Mercon Automatic transmission fluid.
