In 1991, General Motors launched the Saturn lineup with the debut of the S-Series vehicles, which included the SC coupe and the SL sedan. The 1998 Saturn SL came standard with a 1.9-liter, four-cylinder engine that produced 100 horsepower, and a power brake system with disc brakes on the front. This brake system uses a hydraulic fluid to create the pressure that squeezes calipers and stops the vehicle. Because of the sensitivity of the parts within the braking system, it is important that you use the correct type of brake fluid in the system.
The 1998 Saturn SL requires a brake fluid that meets DOT 3 specifications. Using any other fluid may cause damage to the braking system or total brake failure. The brake fluid level should always be somewhere between the "Min" and "Max" line on the master cylinder reservoir.
