How to Replace the Cabin Air Filter on a CLK 320

The Mercedes Benz CLK 320 model vehicles come equipped with two different types of air filtration systems: a charcoal cabin air filter and an external air filter. The outside contaminants that are not trapped and removed by the CLK 320's external air filter flow directly into the cabin air filter. This secondary filtration system prevents these contaminants, such as dust, small debris and pollen, from entering the cab of the vehicle. The cabin air filter is located under the passenger's side glove box and requires little work to replace.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver set (Phillips head and flat-head)
  • Flashlight
  • Safety glasses
  • Respirator
  • New cabin air filter (Hastings/ HAAF1060)
  • Park the Mercedes Benz CLK 320 in a safe work area.

  • Open the passenger's side door and squat down beside the driver's side door. Shine a flashlight underneath the glove compartment and locate the access panel directly under the glove box. Remove the screws from the access panel with a screwdriver. Place the screws in a safe area, such as on the driver's seat.

  • Pull down the access panel and place it in the driver's seat. Shine the flashlight through the access panel opening and locate the black square box directly behind the glove box. The black square box houses the cabin air filter and has a sliding bracket on top.

  • Pull the front part of the sliding bracket toward the passenger's seat and push the adjoining sliding bracket toward the front of the vehicle. This will expose the cabin air filter. Grab the lower back part of the cabin air filter and rotate it downward until it comes out of the box. Make a mental note of the direction of the air flow arrow on the old cabin air filter.

  • Install the new cabin air filter with the air flow arrow pointing in the same direction in which the arrow on the old filter pointed. Slide both sliding brackets back toward each other to close the top of the square box over the top of the new cabin air filter.

  • Reassemble the bottom access panel with the removed screws, and tighten the screws with the screwdriver. Discard the old cabin air filter.
