How to Replace Volvo 240 Seats

Replacing the seats in a Volvo 240 will not take very long to do, because each of the seats is held in place by four bolts to keep it secured. You can buy aftermarket seats purchased at select automotive parts stores, or order them from your local Volvo dealer. Replacing the seats will give the Volvo a fresh new look, enhance the interior of the car and add a little personality and style.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Socket set

Front Seats

  • Push the front driver seat all the way forward to provide access to the plastic plugs at the end of the seat rails. Pull off the plastic plug by hand to reveal a bolt. Unscrew the bolt with a socket wrench. Repeat to the other side of the seat.

  • Push the seat all the way back. Unscrew the bolts at the leading edge of the front seat rails with a socket wrench.

  • Tilt the seat forward to expose the bottom of the seat. Unhook the spring from the floor by hand. Disconnect the wiring harness if there are any power options on the seat.

  • Pull the old seat out of the car and replace it with the new seat.

  • Tilt the seat so the headrest is touching the steering wheel. Connect the spring to the floorboard. Connect the wiring harness to the connector on the floorboard, if needed.

  • Bolt in the front two screws to secure the seat and push the seat all the way forward.

  • Bolt the seats in place in the back of the seat. Push the plastic plugs on the heads to cover the bolts.

  • Repeat the process for the passenger side seat. When the front seats are installed, push both of them all the way forward.

Back Seat

  • Push hard on the front edge of the bottom seat cushion to cause the front clips to release it. Lift from the back to release the back clips. Lift the seat out of the car and place to the side.

  • Pull the seat back up to release it from the eye hooks. Lift straight up and lift it out of the car.

  • Place the new seat back in place and slide along the eye hook. The seat will rest against the back dash.

  • Insert the bottom cushion with the back of it down. The clips will catch the seat cushion.

  • Push the front of the seat cushion in place, and press down on it to engage the clips.
