Problems With a Solenoid In a Mitsubishi Spyder

The Mitsubishi Spyder refers to the convertible model of the Mitsubishi Eclipse. The solenoid switch is a component of the engine electrical system. The solenoid basically sends power to the engine starter. A faulty solenoid can cause your engine to not crank.

Common Problems

  • Common problems with a solenoid include frayed electrical wires, burnt contacts in the solenoid and dented or corroded solenoid housing. Test the solenoid for these problems to locate the source of the problem.

Troubleshooting

  • Listen carefully while you turning the ignition of your vehicle. A single click from your starter after you turn the ignition may indicate a burnt contact in your solenoid. This will usually cause your engine to not start or the starter will turn slower than usual.

Location

  • The solenoid on a Mitsubishi Eclipse is mounted to the top of the starter motor. To reach the solenoid, remove the starter motor from the vehicle. Remove the screws that hold the starter together. Open the starter and locate the solenoid just behind the starter contacts.

Warning

  • There are several things that can go wrong in the starter system. Sometimes, cranking problems may be attributed to the starter when the problem may be a dead battery or lack of fuel. Check the fuel tank and battery before you remove the starter from your vehicle.
