How to Replace the Engine Mounts on a 1994 Toyota Camry

Motor mounts are what keep the engine mounted to the frame. At the bottom of the engine in each corner is one motor mount for a total of four mounts. If one or any of the motor mounts are damaged or broken, then the engine will vibrate and move around inside the engine compartment while the engine is running, and that will cause damage to the engine and the components inside the engine compartment. For the 1994 Camry, the torque specifications will differ between the four-cylinder models and those with V6 engines.

Things You'll Need

  • Car jack
  • Jack stands (2)
  • Ratchet set
  • Block of wood
  • Replacement mounts
  • Raise the front right and left side of the Camry's frame, one at a time, with a jack. Place jack stands under the support points on the front right and left sides just behind the front wheels. Lower the Camry onto the jack stands.

  • Slide under your Camry so that you are looking up at the bottom of the engine block. Loosen the bolts in the center of all four mounts with a ratchet set. Position the jack under the engine block and place a block of wood between the jack lift plate and the oil pan.

  • Raise the Camry's engine up slightly with the jack. Remove the bolt from one of the mounts with the ratchet set then pull the mount from between the engine and the Camry's frame. Replace the mount with the new mount. Replace the bolt at the center of the new mount and tighten the bolt slightly with the ratchet set. Repeat for the other three mounts.

  • Lower the engine back to the frame with the jack. Tighten the motor mount bolts with the ratchet set. Once the bolts are tightened, use a torque wrench to torque them to factory specifications. Remove the car jack and the block of wood from under the Camry. Raise the front right and left sides one at a time and remove the jack stands. Lower the front of the Camry to the ground.
